Michael Smith is the Chef Patron of the Michelin-starred Loch Bay Restaurant, which he proudly owns and runs with his wife, Laurence, since 2016. Generosity is at the core of everything at Loch Bay. It is found in the soulful, classic dishes Michael creates and in the warm, elegant style Laurence has cultivated in the dining room.
Born and brought up in the Highland capital of Inverness, Michael aspired to a career in cooking from a young age, having experienced the buzz of a professional kitchen for the first time as a 15-year-old kitchen porter.
This led to his first full-time appointment at the prestigious Arisaig
House on the rugged west coast, before heading to London. There, he worked at Le Gavroche
and Le Pont de la Tour, where he met Laurence. His style was most notably defined during his
four years alongside Jeremy Lee at the Blueprint Café, where his ingredient-led approach was
